Formula to calculate length (time) to play a medley of tunes.
Note: In music the word measure and bar are interchangeable
1st look at the time signature (ie. 3/4). The number (ie 3) on top is how many beats there are per bar.
2nd count the number of bars in the tune. Bars are divided via a horizontal line.
3rd determine the beats per minute being used for the specific tune.
i.e. using the tune The Siege of Dubrovnik, there are a total of 32 bars.
1st part 8 bars X 2 (repeat) = 16 bars.
2nd part 8 bars X 2 (repeat) = 16 bars Total = 32 bars.
32 bars X 3 beats/bars = 96 beats (notice the bars units cancel each other out)
96 beat / 64 beat/minute = 1.5 minute (notice the beat units cancel each other out)
We do this for each tune and we have the total minutes it takes to play the medley.
